On this 9/14 day, I want to humbly offer a major THANK YOU to the World for the incredible knowledge, support, and camaraderie on this board. This is my first 9/14 actually driving the teener. Its not a milestone, really (It's been on the road since June) - but it was a privilege and joy to pull into the parking lot at work today. Prior to starting down the 914 rabbit hole, the extent of my automotive adventures involved botching a radiator fan R&R on a 90 Miata and not understanding why my 1/4" SAE wrench set never seemed to quite seat right on the Mazda. The cumulative wisdom of the World has been invaluable - may I say life-changing - in terms of building my modest level of mechanical confidence in all things air-cooled and re-establishing a relationship to the world of mechanical things generally.
Let me offer up a toast to everyone driving their teener today, or thinking about driving their teener next spring or the spring after; the ones who've offered up a profanity to the heavens when the orbital burns through the clearcoat; everyone who's got a Haynes on their nightstand; the ones who get nostalgic about the aroma of burning seam sealer and floor tar. Everyone who takes joy in doing the underhanded left-hand salute to pop the hood for a fresh tank of octane. The ones who find beauty in a storm of angle-grinder sparks filling the passenger wheelhouse. The ones who get it, and who get it done.
