I think that my recently acquired '71 has had keys swaped out in the past. My understanding is that one key will work the ignition, doors, and front & rear trunks. Then the second key, the valet key, will work the doors and ignition only. Right?
My car came with two keys. One looks like a VW key (the hockeystick shape) and it works the ignition. It will not fit it the door/trunk locks. Then I have a large headed key that fits the doors and rear trunk. It will not fit into the ignition. Neither will fit the front trunk lock. Sounds as if the ignition key/cylinder may have been replaced in the past. But what confuses me is that the door key will not even slide into the ignition cylinder. I would like to get this sorted out and back to close to original. Suggestions? tom... |
