Wondering about swapping in a Japanese i-4 mounted transversely, complete with tranny. Anyone done something like this? I've searched and read a few hours in here, and haven't seen anything on this topic.
No real immediate plans, just thinking down the line I might want an alternative. And I just read an issue of Sport Compact, and blown away ... Hope I don't get called a troll, though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

QUOTE(phantom914 @ Nov 8 2004, 04:12 PM) QUOTE(capn914 @ Nov 8 2004, 11:30 AM) But there are so many different manufacturers, so many different sizes etc., I'm not sure I'd have to cut the trunk if I could simply find a compatible combination. Is there any kind of comprehensive index on engines of different makes, with measurement specs & such? I'd like to be able to chart out the various combos on some kind of autocad-like program, or for that matter you remember those tech drawings in Road & Track? Is there an archive of those drawings? I think that would really help all of us who are thinking of swaps but would like to get an idea of the possibilities. I'll do some googling and report. Thanks for the reply- With the bulkhead being in front of the wheel centerline and with all (AFAIK) FWD transverse engines being at least a partially over the wheel centerline, I don't think there is any possibility of not having to do cutting. Andrew Hmmm...doing some cutting to move the engine back might make for more room in the engine compartment for radiator setup....
