You gotta pay to play. It was no surprise. I knew it was coming.
Elvira had started smoking on decel a couple of years ago. The oil puddle was growing into a small pond, and now coming from both sides. I thought the car was running great, but a leak down test showed that I was not getting all the 3.0 was capable of.

It was time for a rebuild. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) (I now under$tand why $ome guy$ choo$e a $uby $wap.)

Brant at Carl's Place is doing the work.

Stock rebuild or an upgrade here and there?

I can imagine not a bill I'd want to see ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Stock rebuild or an upgrade here and there?

I have always had questions about my motors internals. I thought is ran excellent and suspected it might have some upgrades. Teardown revealed that everything was stock.
I was seriously considering 964 cams after I was shown the pitted lobes on mine. The shop owner offered me a pair of stock cams at the best price possible (free) and the choice was clear.
I am confident that a fresh, tight 3 liter will be enough to maintain my permagrin. Besides, even if I doubled the cost of the build, the 914 would still be my slow Porsche. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)
