This stock oil pump came from a running motor. I didn't have a guage, but the dummy light always stayed off.
Is this normal or is this pump dead? Surprisingly it feels smooth to the touch.  |

Those marks are probably corrosion. It might be that the engine had a long unused period. I would not worry much because of that.
What you should look for is the free tuning gear pin. That pin tends to dislocate and hit the camshaft gear. That is the most common failure of the type 4 pump. |
