Took my exhaust off yesterday and one of the exhaust manifold studs unscrewed with the nut attached. The threads are good, so I shouldn't have a problem putting it back in. So my question is whether or not I should put some thread sealer on the stud when I screw it back in, and if so, should I use something like Locktite blue strong or red permanent thread sealer. I'm thinking the heat may make using thread sealer a mute point, so I'm asking the Brain Trust of the World for advice.
Thanks, Mike |

Most thread lockers will just burn off with a few exceptions that loc-tite makes and you don't want to use them in aluminum.
Are you using a locking nut or a nut with a lock washer? If it's a locking nut you may want to switch to a nut and lock washer to avoid this. If the stud coming out doesn't hurt anything toss a little anti-seize on it to make sure it doesn't bugger up the threads going in or out and just make sure it's tight when reinstalled. |
