About to reinstall engine and the original flywheel was

cut 0.025".

The as found spacer washer under the clutch fork pivot ball

is 0.060" thick.

This 0.060" thickness was also found on 2 other 914 transmission we have, so we are assuming this was the standard factory washer thickness used with a new uncut flywheel.

Searching seems to indicate that an additional washer of 0.025" needs to be added to the 0.060" washer under the pivot ball to maintain the geometry.

Can we get confirmation that this is correct. If not then what if anything is to be done to compensate for the flywheel being cut?

Also have others found the original washer was indeed 0.060"

Thanks

I have never measured, I always just test fit the trans and shim the pivot ball to bring the clutch fork as close to the engine case as possible without hitting. I have found it to make a huge difference in clutch feel. If when assembled I can slide the tip of my pinky between the clutch fork and the engine case its to much clearance. The least amount of clearance you can get without over shimming the pivot ball the better.
