Got a used scion
xb 117k miles really good condition

But.......

Ac blow intermittently cold for hours
warm for a month ...cold again for 10mins
Warm. Apparently this car has a compressor that always runs . no clutch

So i had my mechanic recharge the system
Little to no effect ...refigerant was a" small bit low "
Decided to replace the compressor next reman for 240$
Was cold for 15 mins then hot ever since

Then i took it too a ac specialist he ran test both with
Snap on ac tool /machine
And checked all electrical related . cost 65 $
Tech said it was internal compressor failure .no pressure

Guy who installed the compressor said he doubts that its defective but will refund my 240 for the reman compressor and install a compressor of my choice (oem) for no charge.

Is this the right thing to do or am i missing something obvious here .

If you have experience with ac please chime in

I'd take it back to the guy who installed it. If the compressor is engaged and the high pressure and low pressure lines are out of spec, then the $240 compressor died and the guy who installed it is being very nice by doing the job twice for you.

Im not exactly sure what you mean about
pressure lines are out of spec ?
Guy who installed it vaccummed and refilled the system not me ... So he could have fried the reman
compressor ?

Then ac specialist didn't mention that specifically
Just that there was no pressure being put out by compressor
