Found a 1.7 914 engine with FI and heat exchangers, supposedly ran when pulled out of the car. What’s a fair price and is it worth having shipped from Texas to Maryland?

Found a 1.7 914 engine with FI and heat exchangers, supposedly ran when pulled out of the car. ... No more than $500 .. That may even be light on an engine with full fuel injection, that worked... more common with a single carb needing a rebuild, from what I've seen. Also, depends on whether it's an oily mess in general or whether it fairly clean and looks like someone gave a crap. Heat exchangers are not always gonna be a given on a $500 engine either - but look at their condition .. if they're rusted out, you don't want them anyway. Value increases if they're the stainless steel versions, of course. This just from what I've observed. BTW, I too have a 1.7L w/Djet for sale in N. Texas (supposedly just rebuilt, looks clean, new parts, etc), full tin and a set of stainless heat exchangers - in case you want to weigh your options. Is it worth shipping these engine? .. well sure if you get a good deal to begin with, then figure in how much money you'd be saving on the cost of fuel by driving a 914 w/a 1.7 in it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |
