Hey everyone,
After lurking around here for years, I finally found myself a 914. Picked it up today and began the 30 min drive home — things started relatively well when the car was cold, but soon after warming up it would no longer idle, basically stalling as soon as I took it into neutral. Had to keep restarting it at every stop with the throttle completely down to get it going again. The car is a 1972 1.7 allegedly converted to a 2.0 (although I'm probably the 7th owner, and I haven't found the serial number yet, so I actually have no idea what's in it). After searching around here, I've found pointers to the AAR and Brad Anders's detailed info on diagnosing FI and idle problems — unfortunately I don't really have the time or space to get into this kind of troubleshooting right now. Hoping somebody might point me to a reputable shop in Toronto that could help be get this car going again? Any advice would be much appreciated! Gord |

Thanks everyone!
Update: I found Scott Lyons at German Supply in Etobicoke, who got it sorted for me. Timing/dwell did need adjustment, along with replacing pretty much every hose in the engine bay to eliminate vacuum leaks. Discovered in the process that a PO broke at least 6 fins off the cooling fan, so now I'm looking for a replacement fan. Gord |
