What do y’all think of these more muted and pastel colors for a 914?
Playing around with the visuals some and thinking either of these two vintage Mercedes colors could be handsome.... I am fully prepared for the slings and arrows that may be forthcoming for asking about Mercedes paint code so have at it. ![]() |

Tom,
One of our guys has a 914 that he painted in his garage and it came out nice a gray. Sorry I cannot remember his name. Lived in The Valley. Nice guy I sold him a great door. Bob B |

Tom, One of our guys has a 914 that he painted in his garage and it came out nice a gray. Sorry I cannot remember his name. Lived in The Valley. Nice guy I sold him a great door. Bob B That would be me! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thanks for your kind words, Bob. I call the color "Shiny Primer Gray". My 10-year old son thinks it looks like "Dirty White". I tell the snobs it's "Columbus Gray" because the paint code is 1492. I get lots of compliments on the color, to my surprise. It looks good from 10 feet away and when going by at 60 mph! Ha! I painted it gray because it's the closest to the original silver I felt I could paint myself. Metallics are hard to get done right, and since I've never painted anything this big, I thought I better stick with something simple. I also prefer non-metallic colors. I like the grays that have a little of another color in them. There is a bluish gray I've seen that would look good. I think it's called Rhino. Keep in mind that gray blends in with the road. My dad had a silver/gray Dodge Ram and he was always getting cut off because no one saw him. On the plus side, it's camouflage from LEO's. Just be careful when driving. And make sure your horn works. I have an "Adventures in Painting" thread here. |
