One was driven by Piech, the other a gift to Ferry. My reading suggests the good doctor wasn't that impressed with his car,I'am thinking a GP based motor wasn't a great street drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) . |

The engine for the Dr's car was de-tuned, and I want to say that he put quite a few KM's on it It was, and he did. The orange 914S didn't get a lot of use. Apparently more powerful but not so tractable or nice to drive on the street. The silver 914S with Weber carbs instead of race MFI ended up with a lot more km on it, though it's hard to know what the split looked like between Ferry driving and Ferry riding in the passenger seat. I get the sense he did a fair bit of that. It's also said he was a really smooth driver and nice to be with as a passenger, where one family member said riding with Ferry's sister (who had a reputation for driving through the alps very quickly) was, ahem, "inconvenient." I too think this pair of 914Ss are among the ultimate 914s, alongside the Le Mans winner, the Daytona winner, the IMSA winner(s), the Marathon cars, and maybe a handful of interesting privateer 914 race cars. |
