The PO had a single carb on when I bought my 74’ 1.8 914 and said he had uneven idle problems with the L-jet injection so he preceded to remove all components and box everything up. So now I’m feeling I want to reinstall the injection and put it back to stock. I have some mechanical ability and patience, though I was never able to get that gas smelling carb to run right. Was looking for someone I could pay for a few hours to kinda orientate me on the location of the box of injection parts I have and give me thoughts on what parts I might be missing and how difficult and expensive it will be to put everything back. I’m in Puyallup WA south hill area, Thanks In advance

i encourage you to do it.

its a primal system. first time install in the world in a car of L jet (but maybe simultaneous with vw 412 but all in the family).

beat SAAB and those eager smug do gooder swedes.

bring it back.

inspect that part # on the flow meter connected to the air cleaner.
Bosch etc 001. says it all. crack a beer after you do it and let me know.
i'll rip the top of a can down here.

Sorry...
the first car with L-Jetronic was the Opel Manta A GT/E from march 1974 on. Has been sold in the USA, too.

Never knew about the Manta Norbert. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
not a bad looking car, never got those in aus.

my 914 1.8 L jet is a jan 74 build.
model years commence production in the second half of the previous year.
us market vw 412s also had the 1.8 with L jet along with 914s.
that puts both of them in august 73 start.

i should have said the 914 shares that first use with the 412.

bosch 001 # on the air flow sensor might be on the opel too.
don't know. the cars that have the 001# are first to use it and its the first version of the system.

far as i know vw/porsche reverted to twin carbs on home market 74 1.8 models. that would indeed make the manta the first car sold in germany if it had L-jet on the domestic models.

i think its the same for aus. we got twin carb versions of the 2.0 type 4 engine on the kombis when they came here. no L-jet. L jet only in the USA.

*
EDIT - here is the list i have now with manta included thanks to your prompt.
tracked it down. its all on the air flow meter - the critical part and tells you which order bosch assigned the #s to the system chronologically. cars themselves might be released earlier than the system chronology. are you sure the manta isn't released earlier than march 74 in germany. if it is, it is the first in the world.

0 280 200 001 - 74 porsche 914 (also maybe vw 412) USA
0 280 200 002 - supposed to exist but never found info on it.
0 280 200 003 - 74 opel manta GT/E
0 280 200 006 - 75 VW beetle USA
0 280 200 012 - 75 VW kombi USA

it goes on through a few more kombi USA models.
some other cars start sharing the systems.

as far as i can tell there were no 004, 005 or 007-011 numbers assigned.
system projects abandoned?

i think the SAAB might have been first to use the K - jet which was offered at the same time as L jet. its a mechanical system not electronic. but uses an air flow meter.
bosch were backing two horses. porsche took up the K jet on the 911s but i think SAAB beat them.

i dug all this up when i was on a rampage to find injectors etc before the world supply of obscure parts completely dried up.

i feel for the manta guys - they would be in the same boat as 914 L jet owners.

Yes - you are right!
I'm getting old - or - better said - I am old!
I always reflect to the cars I worked on in those days...
and German car tech information tells the same as I did: https://kfz-tech.de/Biblio/Benzin-Einspritz.../L-Jetronic.htm

I discussed the theme with Volker Huck three years ago and forgot it: https://jetronic.org/de/forum/hinweise-und-...etronic-familie

Best Regards
Norbert
