That reckless driving charge is going to destroy his insurance rate! Curious what the cost of the ticket is? Pretty expensive joy ride. I've only had my 914=6 up to 140 and that was when I was in my 20's in the 80's. I would never do that now. I have to much to lose. |

I have to much to lose. lucky you. back in the 90s when i lived in western australia, there was some tolerance for driving at high speed once a certain distance from perth. open flat two lane roads, long desert distances. i think it took me about 5 full minutes (maybe it was 10) to get the 1.8 to 105 mph. and the nose started coming up at around 95. there was no one else within about 200 miles of that aerodynamic experiment. i have to memorize all the mph conversions to kph now when i drive so i don't risk a ticket in our zero tolerance environment. the cops are theoretically allowed no discretion in measured speed, ie 1 kph over is a ticket. in practice they tell me they apply 5 still. |

I would suggest getting on Ebay and finding a Euro speedometer from a 914 or an early 70s 911. They were in KPH and are a bolt in for your car. I had one from a grey market 914 that I parted out. It was great fun to freak out people here in the US. Just put it in the car and watch their eyes bug out when it reads over 100... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) I sold it to a 914 owner in Canada years ago. Clay |

Clay thats pretty funny. yeah if i do that i can freeze my low mileage in a box and put ghost kilometers on the odo too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) i get to do the inverse at the moment. my friend with me on the last country drive leaned across and said are we really only doing 70? |
