Mark has my car for engine work this summer. I'm trying to decide which ignition system to have installed and looking for comments and ideas.
The car had the original points and condenser when I bought it 20 years ago. I put in a Crane XR700 to work with the original coil. It works well. I like the ease of swapping out the distributor in case of failure. Maybe there's my answer. I also have a Pertronix Ignitor3 installed in a distributor with a Flamethrower3 coil. Also in the box of parts is a Crane Fireball HI6 with PS92 coil. Is there any real noticeable improvement either the Ignitor3 or HI6 over the XR700? |

I suggest one of the CDI's, mostly because you have it and it can't hurt.
I'd keep the pertronex in the spare '74 dizzy and blaster coil in my spares kit. The question Warren really has is "should he spend another $40. postage on a part I might not use". I can't see any difference unless one is the substantial better unit or one has failed. They are both CDI. |
