I guess dealing with 50 yr old parts ... shit just happens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
The bushing gave up to ghost and disintegrated ,lucky for me I had a spare shift rod. I am just wondering what the solution is. Has anyone had luck re-bushing the shift rod |

Get the bushing with the round holes not the oval holes. Look at the picture of the bushings in tbe link from 914 Rubber. The oval holes are how Porsche made them but they give you a big dead spot in the middle of the shift pattrern. Porsche did that to prevent trans part wear for people who drive with their hand on the shifter.
If you soak the end of the rod in evaporust for a day or so it will clean up the rust on the pin. A vice with a socket to support the bar end and a bolt work to remove the pin. The picture posted with the wire wrapped around the coupler is how not to install the bushings. I use a couple big screwdrivers to push them in from in between the slot. Or you can use a 12mm bolt to pull one in then wedge in rhe other. Do you clamp hard on the coupler. It is fragile and costs about $65. @pete-stevers |
