Been thinking about finding another clean 914 for a few years. Then expanded my thinking to the up and comers; 924/944/968. Then convinced myself I was only casually looking and well, if you look at 968’s, might as well go big and look at the CS.
Found this one recently brought in from Japan. About 1900 CS’s produced from 92-95. None sold in the US but could be imported starting around 2018 (after 25 years). Availability is even more limited due to many RHD cars. Will take delivery as soon as I can arrange transportation in the next 2-4 weeks hopefully. ![]() |

Love It! Beautiful Club Sport and Welcome to transaxle world! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) It is a great looking, and I bet, driving car. Aren’t 914 transmissions transaxles? Is the distinction that transmission and axle are combined in the rear away from the motor. I will have to start learning more. Great buy! |

Transaxle world is all new to me too but as far as I understand; yes transaxle replaces the transmission up near the engine and places it at the rear wheels. And no, the 914 is not a transaxle. Traditional transmission. |

Transaxle world is all new to me too but as far as I understand; yes transaxle replaces the transmission up near the engine and places it at the rear wheels. And no, the 914 is not a transaxle. Traditional transmission. Traditional transmission arrangement is a 'box' with an input shaft and an output shaft, with gear clusters inside the 'box'. The output shaft connects to a longer driveshaft which connects to a differential and drive axles. 914 is a transaxle (combination of transmission and differential/drive axle), just like virtually every VW that has ever been built and pretty much every Porsche. The most common design is the transaxle is mated up right to the engine, so front engine/front wheel drive or rear(mid) engine/rear wheel drive. The 924/944 is a bit unique in that the engine is up front and the transaxle in the rear, connected by a drivetube/driveshaft. It is still considered a transaxle design. Most new cars are front engine/transaxle designs, although the AWD models also employ a driveshaft and rear differential/axle. |
