A little background ... my tins are not rusty, but the PO repainted them and they look a bit DIY. Thus, I'd like to get them powder coated before reinstalling the rebuilt motor (while I have them out).

Is sandblasting the best way to prep tin for power coating?

Are there other methods that are just as effective that I could do myself to avoid the cost of having them sandblasted?

I did some searching and it looks like others used solvent and then soap and water?

Listen to the last comments. If you have a reputable powder coater, this isn't an issue. They do the prep. Or they charge extra for it and you can decide to let them do it (which they can do as easily as a dip in a bath), vs bumbling with it ahead of time.

If you have a powder coater who just cakes your shit and gives it back as shit, find a new powdercoater. If they are worth doing business with, they will guide you to a quality result.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) It's not rocket science. Our guy used to do all the prep, paint, powder, cerikote, etc for a large shop and he has a car detail business on the side. He's the one who organizes and keeps the shop clean ( not easy in a 150 year old barn) so I'm sure DC will be happy - but again, I'm not looking for customers. Better to find a good place near your location.
