Well...I'm finally at the point of ALMOST installing the engine after a rebuild and an endless series of "while the engines out, I really want to..."
I purchased the nearly "finished' car about six months ago only to find the fresh engine was wrecked and needed a complete tear down. This started the journey to the unknown. Thanks to Bruce Abbott in North Carolina I have a fresh engine and renewed hope. I can't say enough good things about Bruce. A remarkable guy with incredible 911 knowledge. The 1976 3.0 euro Carrera engine is back to its glory. Meanwhile I stripped the majority of the engine bay to metal. Lots of sanding, epoxy primer and learned to spray single stage acrylic enamel. A bit of welding here and there to clean things up, pertronix wiring/ new sub harness for the engine. Restored the engine shroud (15 hours alone), sorting out the fuel system and on and on... Transmission rebuilt by Dr. Evil. Now I'm ready to mate the trans to the engine. A couple of questions: 1. Has a fresh release (throwout) bearing and insulating blocks. Do I need to grease/ pack it at all? If so, what type of grease? 2. Do I grease the main spline that slips into the flywheel? Grease type if so? Conservative amounts of course as to not contaminate the clutch. 3. What else should I consider for the day of the mating? Clutch is all aligned. thanks in advance... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

1. You should always do some sort of foreplay before mating! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
If you decide not to this hottie requires a little lube. I use swepco 101 on the base of the shaft where my throwout bearing rides and tiny bit on a the tip where it contacts the pilot bearing. Hopefully you already greased the pilot bearing in the flywheel before clutch assembly. Yes light greasing on the throwout bearing to release arm/blocks. I don't repack the throw out bearing. I use Swepco 101 on everything from wheel bearings to this job. It fits in a grease gun. I don't know what else to use if you can't find it. Maybe someone else will chime in. If you want to stop by I could give you a few squirts of my swepco in a ziplock baggie. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) well said,and everything covered, one thing I missed was my flywheel had been resurfaced and the throw out arm hit the trans opening so had to remove and space with I think was a 1mm spacer under the ball pivot bolt,made a differance in shifting for sure and my new clutch worked as it should.
