Not to be picky also, but on a half-million car..
I wouldn't expect to see a spot of rust anywhere.. Calipers should be redone to factory finish. chipped/flaked paint on the engine underside air baffles. Was the front suspension significantly different? The panel that protects the steerig rack and master cylinder doesn't look right; it only has 2 bolts. I agree, the rear wheels look 'lost' in the flares. Sadly, as a car that was originally sold specifically for racing, this one will spend the rest of it's life as a garage queen, only trotted out for shows. |

I agree in general but rarity and desirability is everything. This car sold for $230k and i think i spy some rust lol Attached image(s) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) approx 150K USD. sure was rusty though. saw that car. aussie rust but. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) some one did their maths on that one and figured out it was worth it. and it probably was. it was all there. rusty or not. there was profit in it. and income. there is a speedster down here. a right hand drive delivered. all original. and i mean original. its not restored apart from mechanical upkeep. beautifully faded. reportedly changed hands last at a mil aud. it never goes up for auction when it switches owners. i've seen it once or twice. some rich chinese dude owns it at present. nice enough guy. brings it out to coffee runs occasionally. no trailer queen. gets driven to its outings. |

Strange. Article said Dollars https://www.motorious.com/articles/news/por...udicrous-price/ you think you are the only country in the world with dollars? the government here calls it a dollar. the locals (me and others) refer to it as the peso (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . if you deploy your sense of humor you will understand the vernacular. its not even a bill anymore, its a coin. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) the paper notes were gorgeous. the oxidised 356 was sold here in aus at shannons. at an auction i attended. with aussie buyers. the auctioneer called it in a broad australian accent. the car is right hand drive. the article you probably read was an australian article. yes we are another country that has a currency called the..................dollar!!!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif) it sold for 150 thou of your greenback dollars. there is a conversion rate you can access on google. if you think about it, given 356 values for certain cars etc thats probably about right. it will return a profit after restoration when its sold again. the $ in the end are the same, here or USA. there is a potential sale price for a finished restored car which dictates how much the chicken shed find wreck is worth. and just to upset your cultural supremacy even more! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) austalia was the first export market for porsches. we even beat you guys to it. check the history. there is a lot of very very very early 356s here. but no 914s. officially. except one special one. .......maybe. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) who knows. its all above my pay grade. ps if you look closely at the oxidised 356 you will notice lots of very special things about it. check the wheels. some other clues. and while aussies might whinge about the rust, its mostly surface oxidisation on that car, not your version of savage salt rust - terminal cancer. its more like a desert scorched car in your neck of the woods. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) but i'm going to agree with original poster. any one calling half a mil of gen-yu-whine greenbacks on a 914/6 - well you don't want to see any rust. esp bubbles under the paint. esp around the door handle area. |
