I rebuilt my 1975 914 1.8 front suspension including the wheel bearings. The ride hight was good and I proceeded to the test drive. After going over a speed bump I started hearing noises from the suspension. upon inspection with the wheels off I noticed the torsion bar adjustment cap had rotated counterclockwise, the adjuster screw no longer touched the stop and I was able to wobble the torsion bar/cap assemble on both sides.
Help please, what did I do incorrectly. There was no rust when disassembled!

If LCA bushings were replaced, I’ll bet LCA bushings slipped during the test drive - changing the preload on the torsion bar. Known issue with some brands of front LCA bushings.
Reset torsion bar end caps and they won’t likely move that much again now they the initial slip has occurred (assuming bushings were replaced). |
