What is it ?
Polytetrafluoroethylene Size - I have a bunch cut at 1.75"x1.75"x2" and some strips at 1.75x1.75 at 36" So I can mill or lathe these to make parts easily. The material is known as PTFE Otherwise know as Teflon The question is what to make with it. My 1st thought was a late shifter bushing at the trans. Some have been made out of Brass, but this would be the best possible material. Then Pedal bushings were another thought, but instead of making a product that once the supply dries up I won't be able to make as the cost would be prohibitive, it needs to be a part that clearly this is the best material. So I put this out to the brain trust - What to make ? Here's some more properties Melting point is about 327 C It's chemically inert It has a VERY low coefficient of of friction - nothing will stick to it. It is flexible under a wide temperature range even very cold What to make? Attached thumbnail(s) |

Thanks to DuPont & frying pans, Teflon is in virtually everybody's bodies on a small but permanent scale. I used to work for DuPont.
Dump it, or better yet, mail it to DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. It's as permanent, if not more, than radioactive waste. Its half life easily exceeds that of used plutonium. I suppose you could burn it & pollute your neighborhood air. Don't breath in that shit if you do, especially if you have dogs. My trunk spring rollers are made from aluminum IIRC. Maybe SS. Screw the emoticons. Screw the emoticons. Screw the emoticons. |
