I have recently had a reason to look at the lineage of the factory 914-6 number 1543 owned by Tony Samojen and documented on Armando’s pbase 914-6 GT website. The original window sticker is shown there. It refers to this car in two places as a 914-6 “R”. No mention of GT

We talk about GT’s and M471 optioned cars, but it seems there is more significance to the R designation than the more commonly used GT designation.

This particular car was special ordered through a dealership and It seems that it was intended more as a street car. Kinda like the Cayman GT 4 RS. No GT roll bar.

I suspect vintage GT guru Glenn Staszak could provide more insight.

I have the factory data on 9140431543 and there is no competition options listed, just M565 leather covered steering wheel
M566 fog lights
M976 chrome rims
stock engine
so this must be the car that Tony converted to a GT tribute or Rallye car
In our 914/6 study group we have the window sticker labeled as fake; lots of items on the image above are suspicious

interesting topic.
yes one of those things i noticed with the 74 L jet research.
they changed the window sticker stationary for 74. to porsche + audi.
and all the other differences.

that so called 914 R w s is most definitely a fake.
the window stickers for 70 to 73 were different.

somebody made the mistake of faking one up using 74 stationary.
i guess you could get away with it once upon a time.
not as much knowledge floating around - would have been one or two people in the world would have picked that up pre-internet.

good old mr. b ( @JeffBowlsby ) has such a fab archive collection up on his website you can reference it these days. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)
