@worn

multilingual international research base down here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
we all drive red vintage VW beetles around on the ice.

this was yesterday. its supposed to be spring time.
the roaring forties normally blow well south of north antarctica.
(the old clipper ship trade winds).
well, whether its global warming, or whatever it was, the winds came way north.
its been like this for a week but yesterday was the peak of the frenzy of weather.
freezing cold gale force winds. i swear i thought the roof was going to get sucked of my place at least a dozen times yesterday.
and this hit. (i took photo half an hour after the event when 50% of it had melted).
a solid 3-4 inch carpet of hail on the ground.
i've been through some hail storms in my times but this was the maddest.
not big hail. but like a tropical downpour of hail. just immense volume of it suddenly.
but worse the gutters in my research facility completely overfilled with ice.
and as it slowly melted the whole building leaked everywhere along the gutter lines for about 5-6 hours afterwards.
frantically throwing tarps around everywhere and went to the supermarket to buy all the buckets left on the shelves.

still mopping up this morning.
had the 914 parked under one of the gutters. with the roof off.
i was quick to get a tarp over that situation. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
