I bought my project car several years back - came with its original 1.7L that had been freshly rebuilt but not installed yet. I noticed this thermostat that was on it when I got it and basically ignored it til now.. it looks a little different than the originals- anyone know the specifics on it?

So the picture I posted is a cold engine.. and the thermostat is obviously expanded. Maybe it expands more? Wouldn't it's current state equal, the flaps are open? Should I expect the spring to contract at some point after warm up?

That is something I can't answer. I have no experience with that alternate t-stat, but maybe someone else can chime in.
