Looking for input.

Found rust inside my gas tank and curious what people use to clean and seal.

I purchased evaporust and am going to use that after a good washout. What have you used that worked well?

Also, aside from POR 15 fuel tank sealer what products have you used that you thought worked well or found not to?

Lastly, sealer recommendation, rust removal tactics and quantity of sealant needed to coat a 914 tank.

Thank you very much for any advice/input.

Brett

The tank on my 73 was pretty grungy inside. I put a scope down there and could tell a previous owner tried to address rust and seal it. The rust came back and the sealant was peeling, the sock was clogged, the fuel filter was clogged, the pump was noisy, it was a mess.

I decided to go with a Dansk replacement tank from Auto Atlanta. I think after shipping it was around $300-ish (the purchase was about 2.5 years ago and the install was about 6 months ago. I ran into a fitment issue with the first Dansk tank (the evap tank and fuel filler piece wouldn't mount properly due to the brackets being a few CMs off, but George worked with Dansk to ship me a new one and I eventually received a replacement a couple of months later. I posted all about that process here:

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...=370541&hl=

You'll see that even after getting the new tank I still had to cut down the seam so that the strap bridge would fit. While I was "in there" I replaced all fuel lines, sock, fuel filter, pump, rebuilt my fresh air box, replaced my wiper assembly and rubber foot to get all of that working like new.

BTW I was going to hold on to the Dansk tank that I didn't use for a future 914 (street rod or track car), but I could use the space in my garage. Thus, I'm probably going to list it in the Classifieds later today as I'm sure someone could use it. I just didn't want to cut and weld the brackets (shouldn't have to when buying something new at full price). But I'm going to let someone have it for $75+shipping. It's a new tank inside and out and would be shipped in the original box. I'll give you first dibs if you want it.
