metric hardware, We need to get our heads out of our butts... Options

Nearly everything that I own uses metric hardware.
It is rare that I come across stuff using Standard.
Not just cars. But guns, toys, electronics, hunting blinds, my ATV, work out equipment.
Basically everything I own.

So, WHY THE F*&K is it such a F*&KING CHORE to find metric hardware and tools.

My hardware stores with the good metric selection - gone. Owner Retired. Every other hardware store in the area, tractor supply, whatever. Screw them. They have maybe a drawer with a very limited and usually SOLD OUT selection. Fastenall? Yeah they don't service walk in any more. Have to call and order and get it delivered a day or so later even though they are just up the road.

Why are we so DAMN BACKWARDS in this country. There is more stuff using metric then "standard." So why can't metric get equal space?

We had a big one in Granbury; they just closed it!

For the lack of everything that seems to be happening I blame the Internet.

Cheap stuff is so much cheaper there that they have put 50%+ of stand alone shops out of business.

Try to find a bookstore now-a-days. Most are gone.

Even Walmart has gotten on the "order it" bandwagon. Saw an ad for a Greenworks weed eater at Walmart, $200. Drove to store. $240...
Wouldn't agree to advertised price. Said order over internet, wait a day, and pick up then.

Went back to shop, ordered on internet, took 10 minutes to get a "Your item is ready for pickup", back to store (same day!) and picked up tool.

This didn't help Walmart at all. They pissed me off, wasted my time, and made me burn fuel twice to get my item.

I will look at other options next time.

Took a solid customer and made him less likely to buy in the future...

Why blame the internet? By your own admission you’re driven by price and willing to go online to get the lowest price.

As Zack pointed out, when I try to support local stores they rarely have what I need and they don’t stock what they should be stocking.

The internet is the one place where I can reliably get what I actually want & need.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven 30 miles to Home Depot and they don’t stock an item and/or the shelf is empty. The poor guy in the orange apron says order on HomeDepot.com.
