I have a complete running 99 Boxster 5spd with a quarter million miles on it.

It's roachy enough to turn into an "Organ Donor".

I'm a sucker for 4 valve, modern digital FI, COP, and modern accessories.

I look at the Boxster and think "Wonder if I can fit that in the 914?".

I think it might be possible.

After conversion I would most likely replace it with a Boxster S or maybe even a 911 engine.

The drive package I'd rather use is a Boxster/Cayman S with the six speed but I own the 2.5L 5 speed now.

There is a good chance I can part the 986 out and make money as it came with a factory hardtop. I want to "vulture" the calipers anyway.

Are the water-cooled sixes dimensionally identical externally?

Have others tried before?

I did find this. At least one has been done!

I like fabrication. I'm prone to "tilt at windmills"

I have a brand new "engineer" I need to break in...

My son Bryan graduated Dec 12! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)

The last place he was employed LOVES him. Has told him, "Don't be a stranger, you're welcome to stop in and use the shop whenever you want".

The "shop" has more than a quarter billion in equipment now.

They have the largest 3D Titanium printer in the world...

My son is a "Full Blown Fabricator" every bit as "bat shit crazy" as his father.

So, I should have the fabrication crap handled...

I've found swaps of this nature significantly easier to do if you have the complete donor.

But BillCs advice IS the way I'll proceed should I decide to go Porsche.

No one has answered the question in my first post. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Before I take the P road, I wanted to verify that the water-cooled 6s are the same in outer dimensions. I BELIEVE they are.

I don't have enough experience with these to know myself.

I was hoping for "Yes, they are the same up to the Vario-cam which has tits sticking out of the front of the T-chain cover" or something similar.

Rick, I'd have entertained your offer. The interior is not complete trash, and I do have another set of leather seats out of a later Boxster than ARE nice. We still might talk...

I AM going to float the "Killer candidate for Spec Porsche race car" by all the shops up at MSR. I do the AC shit for some of them anyway.

I cannot believe I didn't even think about "Race Car" because that is what this Boxster should become...

I felt a little bad about killing off a complete decent car anyway.

Far less remorse following BillCs advice...
