I would like some advice as to the best accelerator cable mount and location for a 74 type 4 i am working on. i've only owned fi so any help will help. Also is there a certain cable shroud part that holds the cable shroud to the mounting bar allowing little to no resistance for the cable to move freely. Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)

Those are all good tips. Get you ignition system dialed in properly. Many threads on this. Verify engine compression, valve adjustment. What carbs? What venturis? The incorrectly sized carbs and ESPECIALLY venturis, will make your job significantly more difficult. A street 2.0l will work best on 40s with 27-28mm vents. Another thing I would not live without today is a wide band oxygen sensor set up. I've had 40 years of tuning and reading plugs and a WB puts me to shame. In my book it is a required mod! Most important is to be overly cautious regarding fire. With carbs I'd have a cabin mounted FE. Keep big ones close by when you're working on the car. If you are prepared and expecting fire you will NEVER have to use the extinguisher. I LIKE those "fire blankets" they sell for your kitchen. Those cover engine compartments nicely and if you get the fire out in the first 15 seconds there is usually no or limited damage. Setting off a 10 lb. extinguisher means 3-4 hours of clean up! |

I am a 1/2 owner on this car and am enjoying the punch list work and am learning a few things along the way. I just added a new dash and will go through the guages and shift linkage ....and will do all fire ups outside with a small and large fe handy! now im gonna buy a fire blanket.... the engine was rebuilt (not by me but by my buddy Chuck in the vid.) and assembled at the shop. I was there for the valve job and the timing. I don't own a float for carbs but ill buy one of those too! This is my 6th 914 in 25+yrs. the older i get the more i am interested in the "whys and how" thus my reasoning for owning 3 currently. Not sure of the venturi size. I know it is an e case but do not know the size of the pncs or the specs on the heads. No real blueprinting....Ill be handing this back to my business partner so he can enjoy this ride. I also need a peace of mind on trips so i do not have to wrench on my way to coffee and cars. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif) As for ignition we have a msd 6a. That will be an entire new thread... |
