Picked up a 76 out of texas that had been converted to single carb that just doesn't run very well. I decided to convert back to original FI, essentially everything is gone and I am working on understanding the system. I guess my first question is where does the fuel pump draw power from? there is a single black wire underneath the fuel tank that has no power to it but all the relays have been removed and Im waiting on those from pelican

If you have your advance hose hooked to any kind of vacuum source available on your engine, that is probably why the idle is high.

If you have your advance hose hooked to any kind of vacuum source available on your engine, that is probably why the idle is high. Hi Emery, You are correct and the diagram from Jeff is correct . I had the advance hose connected to the plenum. I really wish I had the correct D-Jet vacuum hose diagram because some things on this diagram are correct and some things are not for my car. Like the Anti-flashback , I don't have one but I do have the 13mm ports on my valve covers. The oil filler goes to the 13mm port on my air cleaner and I do not have a PCV as in this diagram , this has caused me a bit of confusion . The Evaporative filter is correct for my car . I purchased a stacked port adapter as shown but now I found I didn't need it . I also purchased a anti-flashback valve that I didn't need because I saw it on this diagram because I had the 13mm port on my valve covers . These things caused me a bit of confusion again. Removing the advance hose from the plenum solved a lot of problems . I can now use the idle adjustment screw to lower the idle ,however I had been trying to time and adjust the ECU when the car was connected wrong . I started the car and ran into several new issues I need to sort out . I noticed the motor is getting hot now so I stopped . Tomorrow I will get back to it and start my new Thread . As I mentioned before I cannot see a timing mark so I have been trying to time by ear ,I have the #1 plug on the distributor pointing to the drivers side Cylinder #1 as I read . Anyway I am ended 914incali's thread and will start my own for any updates . Tomorrow I will reassess this and report where I am at . Thank you for hanging in there with while I was apparently going down the wrong road with this one . One more thing to think about is after correcting the vacuum line off the distributor the car seemed to run better meaning I had more pep when I stepped on the accelerator and I was able to bring the idle down with the adjustment screw but after I shut the motor off it would not start and stay running until I gave some advance to the timing . |
