Can someone tell me what the slotted hole indicated within the red circle on the first photo is, why it’s there, and how’s this case differs from most other cases that I have seen the does not have the hole? Cases in the second photo have no similar hole.

The inside coating sheds oil. Supposedly it gets the oil to return to the sump faster.
The outside case coating supposedly increases heat shedding so the motor runs cooler. It's used on the outside of heads too. And, it looks cool (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . |
