Hello 914 World! I am happy to say hello and introduce myself to the 914 World, as I recently became the owner of a '73 914 6 conversion that I found here in the classifieds. It's an original 2.0l car and I have the numbers matching motor in storage. In it's place is a 3.0l out of a '79 911 SC. The car was 95% done and now is a driver and on the streets while I sort out some known and some unknown issues. One of which is I don't have a parking brake any longer due to the installation of some beautiful, updated brake calipers from a Boxter/Cayman and 911 rotors. I have talked to Patrick Motorsports and a few local Bay Area Porsche experts and nobody has an easy or $ reasonable alternative. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!
I have found the Wilwood Rear Brake kit for $3k. I have also found the option to go with OEM 914-6 rear brakes, which is also cost prohibitive. I really don't want to go backwards which is why I am asking all of you for some help. Much thanks! Mike (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

There is a classic thread on this topic.
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=4909 I used a thick piece of angle iron welded to the trailing arm, similar to a 911. In the article above they showed a modified 911 parking plate with a built in block. I would not recommend this unless you are just using it as a parking brake. In an emergency at speed I doubt that wimpy stop plate would prevent the shoes from braking loose and spin on the axle. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) long story short I had that failure and it makes a hell of mess ,destroyed a whole bunch of parts including smashing the stop plate eye off where the cable passes to the spring return plates ,managed to repair that part, took a while to find parts used but located them from Retro Automotive and they were kind enough to send me a few extra parts free of charge. I was pissed off as the PO told me the system worked fine , that was BS and no stop plates had been welded on to the trailing arms , luckily it only happened on one side as the cable was out of adjustment on the other side so no other damage done . Cheers. |
