Anyone tried these in their 914? If so,

How did it work out?
Brand/model Recommendations?
Where to mount rear camera?

What to avoid?

Backup cameras (only operate in reverse) are lifesavers, especially if you own a shop and have to back onto your lift from time to time.

Some late GM ones have a bird's eye view that can detect cracks in the concrete.

Some GMs (trucks) have cameras that "see through" your freaking trailer and also render an accurate line drawing of said trailer.

MAGIC!!!!!

The ones that have the tiny window in the rear-view mirror are un-usable.
They should be center dash IMO. Most are.

I don't like the true "on at all times" rear camera mirror replacements.
Dad put one on the Rhino (17 Ram ProMaster-like a small UPS truck).
It was a nice one $800 and has already failed once requiring replacement.
It's kick ass for watching stuff on your trailer but not good for traffic.

I prefer a multi panel "Wink" style mirror in my sports cars.
They are a bitch to adjust properly but once your there you have nearly 180 degrees vision to the back.
Adjusted correctly they appear as a single image to the driver.
It is EVERYTHING behind the car and it takes some time to get used to.

You can see vehicles in the mirror that are passing the car on the left side!

They get in the way of the sun visors, they look cartoonish and cheap.

They work like nothing else I've ever looked through...
