Hi Everyone,

One of my best friends blew up the engine on his 2013 WRX STI Limited with 109K miles about 2 weeks ago. He is the original owner of the car and it was bought from Subaru in Livermore. It is silver with black interior and has the optional Subaru short-shift kit and free-flowing exhaust, also from Subaru. Stock, I believe these are 2.5 with 300 HP. It is a 6-speed. My buddy always refers to his car as the "914-6 of Subaru". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

He just had it serviced by Subaru in September '24 ($8K) and they did a complete clutch package, timing belt, new tires, etc. at that time. The car has always been serviced by Subaru except for the times he would give me the car for minor servicing.

He drove this car regularly and lived in San Francisco so it has some minor contact points on the bumpers (SF people park by feel!) and the wheels have been curbed.

Once the engine let go, he initially wanted to rebuild and keep the car. But he began looking at new BMW M3 sedans and has decided that is what he wants. He is a busy workaholic and has asked me to handle the sale.

This would be a great car for someone who is handy and can swap in a replacement engine. All the parts from the old engine will of course come with the car. @Technicalninja has looked at the engine photos and he believes that the complete motor is toast, including the turbo.

I will put a price of $13K out there to start this off. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks a lot,
Michael (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

That is a pretty good deal...

Next steps for me would be to take the housings off the turbo and look at the wheels.

I expect the exhaust side will have fin damage, what I'd be super critical on is the compressor section (intake side) If that disintegrated you HAVE to clear all the shrapnel out of the intake track.

The kicker is the intercooler. If that got a dose of shrapnel it should be considered un-cleanable and replaced.

The way I'd go on that is either a dedicated HP build ($$$) OR a complete take out from a junkyard with everything. I'd try to get the intercooler as well...

A handy guy could probably go the used route for 5K...
