I did a ground up build on a really nice chassis about 22 years ago. It changed hands twice ending up with jerhofer, who took it up several notches. It’ll be fun to watch and see what it hammers at.

Blue wide body 914 6 conversion

Impressive car. It would be nice if someone could come up with a parts list and mods to recreate that Boxster trans conversion. I love my 915/916 trans. It's night and day better than a 901/914 trans with a 3.2 or 3.6, but not nearly as nice as a modern Boxster trans. I still have to muscle each gear change and it's not as tight shifting compared to his video. No way in hell could I shift with one finger and each gear is wobbly. Still shifting is easy with a Rennshift and a 916 gear box. The rennshift hides all the shifting issues.

Indeed a very impressive car. @Steve Is the 915/916 a lot better than a 901? I have one I have been waiting for an excuse to install it, was concerned about I heard they can be harder to shift than a 901? Also mine is an early 915 so it has a similar gear ratio as a 901, was debating if I need to put the taller R&P in it.

I bet he could start making conversion kits for that Boxster trans and sell them as a small business...

With a 3.2 or greater motor, I would recommend a late 8:31 915 trans, but it depends on your needs and budget.
My first six in my car was a 2.7. My car is a street car, not track. 914 trans was fine with the 2.7. Switched to the 3.2 and 1st was worthless with the 914 trans. The shifting around town drove me nuts, however the low gears are great for the track or autocross.
I would not waste the money on an early 7:31 915 for a 914 unless it’s a track car and you think you will save money in the long run on rebuilds. The 7:31 915 gearing is similar to the 914 trans, so it kinds of a waste except you will get a more robust first gear. Interesting cheat is a local member is using taller rear tires with his 914 trans and 3.2 to get similar gear ratios as a late 915 gear box.

Regarding shifting, the 914/901 is easier to shift than a 915, but you get used to the balkiness of the 915 pretty quickly. I have a 914 trans in my v8 914 and the shifting seems similar to the 915/916 trans in my 3.6 car. Could be a clutch issue in the v8 car.

Beware the 916 kit and rebuilt 915 trans is ridiculously expensive. A Boxster trans conversion has got to be cheaper, but more work. You will need a hyrdraulic clutch and shifter cables if you go with a 6 speed or Boxster S trans.
