Can some one tell me what the over all length (inches) of the forward shift rod for a 73 and later 914 is suppose to be ? I have a forward shift rod that measures 28 1/4 inches total. it is straight and is splined on one end and smooth on the other end. I t doesn't look anything like my 71 front shifter rod. Is it the right length for a side shifter front rod?

So the longer rod that is the most narrow diameter is the correct rod for the later 73 cars. 20 years ago I bought a 73 parts car and stored the 71 parts from the 71 being restored all together. Somehow I think a 71 shifter lever got put on a 73 front shift rod.Thank you guys for the help. Hopefully I have it correct? Attached Image
