A while back, I asked about how hot a 914 should run on a VDO gage with no numbers. Responses said, I need to look at the sender to see if it matches the gage. I had a chance to get the sender out so here it is.
After a high reving drive on a warm day, the temp went close to the red zone. Maybe a needle or twos width to the red. Do I have a matching gage with sender? Thanks! |

Have you checked your voltage at the battery? Has anyone played with your gauge wiring? My gauges used to do that thing with the lights. Oil pressure will drop and temp rises as the gauges feed less than 12.5 to the senders.
As far as heat goes, you need to stop driving it until you figure out if those temperatures are real or you will start dropping seats. You have no idea what your cylinder head temps are. Oil is fine, depending on quality, over 300 degrees. If your oil is that hot, driving the way you are, I would assume your heads are melting, or your timing is way off and your heads are melting. I really suspect either your gauge is way off due to incorrect voltage reaching and coming back from the sender or your flaps are stuck closed |
