Hey there everyone, working on getting my 6 conversion going here and I was able to hook up a temp fuel system in place of my tank while I am waiting on a few parts. I wanted to get the car to idle with its new fuel pump (not yet regulated down to 3.5psi) rated at 5 PSI max. I wanted to get the carb bodies full of fuel and get some pressure into the system and as soon as the pump turned on with the ignition the carbs essentially started dumping fuel down my intakes. Almost as if there was an internal leak causing fuel to just enter their respective cylinders. I'm new to down draft webers so this confuses me. I popped the top off of one of the carbs and noticed the fuel level was extremely low in the bowls so it was not like the needle and seat were stuck or a float was stuck causing it to overfill. Kind of stumped here as these carbs are rebuilt. Really any suggestions are good here. the float level was set, the needle and seats are good and not sticking at all.
I read somewhere but not in much detail that the bowls are vented? I have these little plunger-esq things in each vent tube that I have not yet pulled out. Would that be the source of my problem? If the bowls couldn't vent its just pressurizing the changes and causing the fuel to just leak down into the engine? |

A quick update with no real actual update on the car running. I got a few items in the mail, mainly the gauge to temporarily run inline on the fuel to see what pressure im currently at without regulating down. It's at a wopping 12 PSI, the listed rating when purchased was around 5.5 or so. No wonder I was having problems! Basically 4x the recommended amount probably was not helping any.
Other items I got was the regulator and I am working on mounting that and plumbing it in and will get that to 3.5PSI this weekend once I get the fittings for it. I also got my 914/6 stock hardline for the carbs and am waiting on some clips to get that attached to the body. I had a question here for those with a carbed 6, I have the SS hardline coming up through the side there right under the battery tray and that one since it is for a stock set up has the weird kink in it that angles it kind of down toward the engine. Are people cutting the line before that kink so its a straight shot up to the fuel line? Seems like thats the only reasonable option to get it to line up without any weird kinks or angles. Curious what others have done there. Also coming this weekend is the fuel bowl tool so fingers crossed I should be up and running better this weekend. Oh and I gapped out the existing Bosch plugs to about .040, which is still under the recommended amount from MSD, but also read that the more you go the more risky it can be for ruining some other component in the ignition system. .040 Seemed safe. |

I have started with my BPR7ES plugs gapped at .045, but not sure if that is a good gap or not. I need to get more miles on this before I can tell. It's in the paint shop for the next couple months or so |
