76 2.0, 130,000 miles. I used to run Brad Penn 30 with high ZDDP, a very “ sticky” oil. It stopped the little bit of smoking from the exhaust. (probably worn rings). The newer oil is called Penn oil, and I don’t think it’s the same as the original Brad Penn formulation. Now the engine is smoking a little again. Can anyone recommend a replacement/equivalent oil to my old stickyBrad Penn oil?

This stuff works great to clean out crud on old engines. 1 quart of MMO at an oil change, then fill the crankcase with regular oil. Drive it about 1/2 of your normal mileage and change the oil again. The MMO will break down a lot of the crud inside the motor. Not a fix for an engine needing a rebuild, but it will help keep sludge from building up and it will clean out stuck lifters.

For an oil recommendation for our cars, I would suggest Valvoline VR1 20W-50. It is high zinc, and it is available at any FLAPS. So if you are on a trip, you can get some oil if you need it.
