doing my periodic research trawl into european spec 74 914s and this came up.
very good condition 71. looks to me on studying the photos to be highly original. even the paint. but you always got to see them in the metal to know. have a real soft spot for early cars in minimalist trim. willow green with brown interior combo is outlandishly moon age. "engine number and trans number merely consistent with original equipment and options.
?????" There are more pages to the CTC with more information than that one image. The CTC indicates the specific engine type number and serial number for the engine and transaxle original to the specific car. Whats the issue? |

"engine number and trans number merely consistent with original equipment and options. ?????" There are more pages to the CTC with more information than that one image. The CTC indicates the specific engine type number and serial number for the engine and transaxle original to the specific car. Whats the issue? if that is what they are doing thats fine. giving you the actual engine number the car is built with. me.....ive been contemplating seeing if i can get a VW classic certificate for mine. i think i will give it a try. after all - its built at karmann same as a karmann ghia and you can get them for those. all the vin number and production plates are straight vw fprmat not porsche. and the cars were VW pprsches in europe and germany and sold by VW dealers (for the 4 not the six). the cost is 129 euro for the full three document package. thats a lot less than 1000 AUD. VW absolutely confirm the engine number of the car as built. its done with a separate letter. if you provide them with your engine number and chassis number on the application they handle it in the following way. the engine number is usually not provided on the classic certificate. just the engine spec. a separate letter either confirms or negates the engine number and vin number combo ypu have provided as how it was built. i think this is to avoid folks faking up numbers matching. ie we don't tell you what it was built with so you can do some post certificate adjustment on the car, rather you tell us what you have and we then confirm on negate the combo you have. very interesting approach and responsible. not that all VWs are that special but some models are and the info changes the value of the car. remembering that numbers matching in most parts of the world means exactly that. its got the exact engine it left the factory with. not just the right type of engine. not entirely sure what the definition of numbers matching in the USA means. but down here it does not mean anything other than the engine it had when it was built. if i succeed with VW classic in getting a certificate i will let you know. |
