76 2.0 FI, 130,000 miles, stock except for Crane Fireball electronic ignition.
Has been running flawlessly until the last week, now the idle has dropped to 4-500 rpm and stalling at lights. -The idle screw has always affected the idle rpm, now it makes no difference how far out the screw is set. -Removed air cleaner (has new air filter), air going directly into throttle body makes no difference to low idle. -Valves were done a few thousand miles ago I am taking it to my mechanic to have new spark plugs installed and remove the injectors to send in for a rebuild. I'm hoping this might affect the idle. Any thoughts on what might account for the lack of idle all of a sudden to point my mechanic towards? |

Check your timing at idle when it is 'low'. Check to see if your mps is holding vacuum.

Check your timing at idle when it is 'low'. Check to see if your mps is holding vacuum. Hi Emery, I know what the mps is, but at the risk of asking a silly question, how do I check the vacuum? Disconnect the hose going to it and use a hand vacuum pump like a MityVac to pull ~15inHg on it and see if it holds there for 5 minutes. If it won’t hold vacuum then the diaphragm inside it is probably cracked and needs replacing. |
