my guess is they called it 914 because a scanning bed that size (9x14inches) covered all of the four main paper sizes in use then with a little to spare.

international metric (A4)
imperial - (foolscap)
letter - (usa)
legal.

clever stuff. position page against one corner for all.
have appropriate magazine cartridges to suit.
sell the same machine the world over.
world domination.

smarter than vw and porsche who failed to make their 914 in imperial format right hand drive to suit the last gasp of the british empire's dominions. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
