Part of the 914 charm for me, is that it came with sail panels that were reminiscent of the purpose built Porsche racers that had come before it. They were Porsche staying true to it's design language in a way. I love the "hoop" too, it reminds me a little of a Porsche 910 with it's roof off! Turning the car into a convertible mellows it and at the same time makes it look more average - somehow, IMHO.
