As much as we all hate oil threads... here's an oil thread.
What's the latest on race oil for a 4 cyl. Mine's dry sump, dual coolers pretty heavily built 2.6L It holds roughly 10 qts all told. I've used Amsoil racing in the past, but it's gotten $$$$$. Locally I can get most of the LiquiMoly products. I've run that in my (street) 911 and it's quieter and leaks less. I've also run the Brad Penn products, which are now called something else. I can also get that locally. Many like VR1. I've never tried it. Thoughts? Thanks! |

Oh boy...here we go.
You want ZDDP. And with 10qts (mine's 9) and consistent changes, you also want to be economical. Find a ZDDP chart for your fav oils and compare. You're looking for ~1200ppm ZDDP or better. I suggest significantly more than that is wasted, especially with consistent oil changes (I do mine every other race weekend). I use VR-1, Chevron DELO, Mobil Delvac, new Shell Rotella T (did he just mention diesel oils? Why, yes, I think he did...) I'm not gonna argue with The True Believers because they know I'm wrong. |
