I had to re-tap and replace one of the bolts at the front of my right a-arm today. The bolt I removed is merely marked 8.8 ML. Just curious if that is the original and proper bolt to be used there. I replaced it with a 10mm 1.5 pitch 8.8 strength 40mm length bolt- OK , I guess? I am confused by the markings on the original bolt.

8.8 ML. "ML" is likely the manufacture mark. Though I'm more used to seeing Kamax, Karro, NSF, Verbus, etc. 8.8 (older 8G) are the most common. Fewer 10.9 (older 10K) are found. Even fewer 12. I believe the numbers are tensile strength. If you can locate the specific bolt in the PDF parts catalog, you will learn diameter and length. Also if you look up that part number at the various vendors you will probably find a description or image that indicates the correct tensile strength is. As I recall, all mine in that area were 8.8. |
