Can the TRIPmeter cable still run through the reset procedure - in order of 0000 to 1111 to 2222 to (and so on), if the toothed gear for the ODOmeter has come loose?
This is the situation I currently have. Speedometer works, Odometer does not, trip is also not counting - but trip cable turns the 4 digit gears thru the range. I'm trying to figure out if it's just a cable attachment issue before pulling the gauge and breaking it all apart AGAIN. |

To answer your original question, the trip reset can change the trip odometer back to all zeros. The problem I have found is NOT that the odometer's drive gears are loose on their axle, but that the axle itself has worn the holes in the speedometer arms which support the axle oblong to such an extent that the odometer gears don't mesh with the gear driven by the speedometer cable. I have found this problem on at least 4 used speedometers over the past few years. Not once have I found a loose speedometer drive gear which is not firmly attached to its axle shaft.
