Tranny help, Can't get first Options

Everything else shifts like butter, but when I reach for first it's like the clutch is not even in. I've never had anything like this before.

I really don't use first much at all, big engine with lots of torque, so second is my starting gear, I only use first on rare occasions for something like steep driveways or a stop sign at the top of a hill.

Thinking back about what I may have done which is usually the root cause of most of my problems . . . the only thing I can think of is that I had the back up light sender out to remove the male pins from the plug that had broken off in the sender. Could I have done something reinstalling the sender that could affect first?

Hi Bruce the actuator pin is between the trans shift rod
and the electrical switch that controls the reverse lights.
Not sure how it would happen, I’m no expert. But if it were me I’d
Pull that pin, put the switch back in and try 1st gear.
