The trans shifts perfectly, but if I try to put it in 1st gear, I usually have to “get the gears spinning” w the clutch out, then in, count to 3 and it drops right in. Is that normal or an indication a syncro is out on first gear? The engine is coming out for a dead cylinder repair or rebuild, and I’m wondering if I should have the tranny rebuilt too…

My first gear would never just drop in without some growling. Engine is out, and since the rest is good maybe freshen up first gear. If you stop there they do not need to go into the rest of the trans. Seals would be a good investment too
