For the second time experienced paint experts ask me when I got my 74 1.8L repainted, as they say there’s mild orange peel. It’s mostly original and I’m the original owner; I know what’s been repainted or touched up ( not much).
Anyone with experience as to how much orange peel surface is/was in the 1.7 and 1.8 car bodies?
Is a small amount normal, excessive, or unheard of?
Would like to counter them or take the time to remove the peel.
Thanks!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

its a VW Paint job. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
orange peel = VW. tell them to get stuffed.

mine has orange peel. and it is original paint. esp evident still down the flanks out in the light.

also has factory spec paint run under the rear trunk lid near one of the hinge brackets. obligatory mere dusting of paint under the cowl areas of the front trunk. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

a wanker at the porsche cars and coffee i went to a month back tried to tell me my car was an older restoration. showed him the dealer check stickers and stamps still under the edges of the front and rear trunk lids. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) that shut him up. the type who likes patting their dick while they tell you stuff about your own car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

irony is that all usa market 912s got the same paint job from the same karmann drunks as well as a good portion of swb 911s and earlier a big batch of 356s. i don't know if the reutter paint jobs were any better. but they sure weren't alone in having orange peel. just about every car except a roller or a mercedes benz had orange peel paint from factory back in that era. quite a few still do even now. despite clear cloat tech.
all the ford falcon and holden monaro restorers down here go beserk trying to replicate factory correct 70s grade (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) orange peel these days. perfect paint is so last week. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) they especially go nuts trying to get just the right amount of indifferent cover in hidden areas. --------

second thing. experienced paint experts know this. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
