OK..I've read a bunch of semi-recent articles online regarding electric air conditioning kits in cars. One was a 911 that is employing a rather pricey euro-kit and the owner seemed pleased... Most articles focus on the large current draw and the overall (in)efficiency of the kits on the whole. Yet, I can't help but feel that the 914 (tiny car) is a perfect application for such a kit - particularly if your engine can push a larger alternator. (Mine is a v6 and would have no problem doing so).. Allows you to frunk-mount the compressor and simplify the overall install (yes, big gauge wires are required, but in my case at least.. no interior exists so no worries)
Plus relatively cheap kits are waaay-abundant. So thoughts, insights, experience? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

914-6 GT in waiting ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Group: Members Posts: 20,041 Joined: 19-September 09 From: Landenberg, PA/Wilmington, DE Member No.: 10,825 Region Association: MidAtlantic Region ![]() ![]() |
I bought a CR unit to put in my 914-6. The evaporator/ blower won’t fit in the front like a 911 so I was just going to use an in cabin unit like yours.
I do appreciate you mentioning the PMS install so I can think about options. I was also thinking about the evaporator in the front cowl if I made a custom enclosure and spaced the fans off to the side, in between the evaporator and the ducts into the cabin. Edit - I bought the CR gen 1 kit from someone who bought the kit years ago and only sat it on a shelf. Probably a third of current pricing. We’ve done a couple installs on customers cars this year. ~$6k plus install. They do work well if you attend to all the details. |
